Much of the consideration boils down to the following questions: Otherwise structured procrastination becomes…well, it becomes procrastination! You have to be determined and driven to make it work effectively. Structured procrastination sounds like fun. Also, while some thrive on orchestrating every last minute to perfection (despite the realities), others don’t want to get bogged down with anything more than a basic starting point. A structured plan is necessary for some activities, while it hinders others. Much depends on each person and their current individual circumstances. Just a basic breakdown of things to do in varying degrees of size/time/importance.Īs you’d expect, there is no one-size-fits-all. ![]() One big, three medium, and five small tasks on your list. The 1-3-5 Daily To-Do List is good for a basic schedule too. One reason why I like the David Seah Emergent Task Planner is that it looks a few major tasks, extra tasks if you have time, plus emerging stuff because “Life just happens”. This, sometimes, requires a schedule of sorts. The world doesn’t pander to you, so you must respond to the needs of others. And not everyone can dismiss timetabling completely, on a whim. A total lack of planning still requires an element of planning once the day is underway. Or is it? I think a binary argument of schedule versus non-planning is too simplistic. Something that I found few years ago really served me well and I’ll be implementing it again in my daily life – The Printable CEO by David Seah. ….which of course I am procrastinating on by typing this blog post. ![]() Now I have at least an hour or two in front of me to figure those times out and enter them in our system. On the other hand, there are weeks (like the one that I just came out of) where all I have is a stack of scribbles on note cards to from which to discern my weekly efforts. If you take the opportunity to enter your time as you consume it, there is no problem. Here at InterWorks, we use a homegrown time entry tool that works just fine. This makes time tracking one of the biggest burdens of my day and something I usually spend valuable time trying to cleanup later. If you work on a single task associated with a single project for 8-10 hours per day, then time tracking is simple and you do not understand why I am writing this.įor me, my world seems to change every 7-10 minutes and whatever I planned for the day is completely irrelevant by 10am. Depending on your role and your typical daily activities, tracking time can be a very easy task or a nightmare. ![]()
